Esters of p-amino-salicylic acid of the formula <FORM:0670490/IV (b)/1> where X is an alkoxy group with 3 or 4 carbon atoms, are obtained by subjecting to catalytic hydrogenation a compound of the formula <FORM:0670490/IV (b)/2> where Y is a nitro, azo or carbobenzyloxyamino radical and Z is hydrogen or a benzyl group. An example is given of the preparation of propyl and butyl esters.
