Abstract

The compound of formula <FORM:1078424/C2/1> is prepared by reducing 5-oxo-alpha-ionone (I) to 5-oxo-alpha-ionol and dehydrating the latter. I is made by oxidizing alpha-ionone with t-butyl chromate. Exemplified reagents for effecting the reduction and dehydration are NaBH4 and KHSO4, respectively.
