Abstract
669,976. Heating railway rails. SOC. GENERALE D'APPLICATIONS ELECTROTHERMIQUES. July 8, 1947. [Jan. 15, 1941] No. 18003/47. Classes 104 (i) and 104 (iii). [Also in Group XI] A railway permanent way installation, including a part or element of magnetic material liable to become frozen in cold weather, is provided with a heating device comprising a magnetic core having poles spaced apart by a distance greater than the maximum transverse dimension of the part or element, and an exciting winding on the core supplied with alternating current, the poles of the magnetic core being secured to the element lengthwise. Fig. 3 shows a section of a rail with the heater I secured thereto, the exciting winding GH being connected to a source of alternating current, not shown. The heater is permanently fixed by bolts J or by other means on the side of the rail or beneath it. Specifications 446,111, 485,966 and 518,344, [all in Group XI], are referred to.
