Abstract
1,208,201. Railway systems. M. BARTHALON. 12 Jan., 1968 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 1889/68. Heading B7L. [Also in Divisions B8 and H2] In a rail vehicle, Fig. 14, a plurality of C- shaped stator cores 68 co-operate with a magnetizable member in the form of a fixed rail 63 with teeth 64 in its upper edge. The windings 69 of the stator cores are energized in sequence to move the vehicle on rails 62. Rollers are used to space the rail 63 evenly in the air gap 71. The rail 63 may be mounted on an insulating spacer 77 for use as a third rail current supply. In Fig. 17 an air cushion vehicle employs a - similar stator which co-operates with a solid rail 84 having inserts 85 of magnetic material. The vehicle is supported by an air cushion 82 and maintained centrally disposed about rail 84 by means of further air cushions.
