Abstract

669,364. Pulse modulation circuits. LIBOIS, L. J. May 25, 1949 [June 10, 1948], No. 14048/49. Class 40 (v). In a pulse amplitude modulator pulses 2, from source 1, are fed through resistance 3 to the clipping rectifier 4 biased by the anode current of valve 5 flowing in cathode resistance 6 shunted by condenser 7. The junction of resistance 3 and rectifier 4 is connected through the secondary of transformer 10 to the grid of valve 5, the primary being connected to the modulating signal source 8, 9. The cathode resistance of valve 5 also includes the unshunted resistance 12 which improves the linearity of modulation. The amplitude modulated pulses are derived from the anode 14 of valve 5, which is biased to cut-off in the absence of pulses.
