Abstract
657,768. Valve modulating circuits. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. June 8, 1948, No. 15457. Convention date, July 9, 1947. [Class 40 (v)] A linear high percentage amplitude modulation system comprises a carrier amplifier valve V2 and modulator valve V1 with common cathode resistor R4, modulation and carrier being applied to the respective control grids of the valves, the carrier through a half-wave rectifier D1 so that only the negative peaks of the carrier are applied to the grid of V2. The latter valve is driven to cut-off by the negative carrier peaks so that at the anode of V2 the carrier amplitude varies between B+, the H.T. voltage, and a lower value modulated by the valve V1. The D.C. component of this wave is then removed by a band-pass filter 30 so that an output wave modulated in both half-cycles is obtained. Cathode resistors R2, R3 individual to the valves V1, V2 provide current feed-back stabilization.
