Abstract

705,901. Automatic gain control. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 12, 1951 [Jan. 31, 1950], No. 2449/50. Class 40 (5). [Also in Group XXXV] In modulated carrier wave apparatus the smoothing of an automatic control voltage is effected by applying the voltage to the input of an amplifier through a resistance and connecting the smoothing capacitor between the input and a point at which appears a voltage in amplified form and of opposite polarity. By this means a smaller smoothing capacitor may be used. In the circuit shown a control voltage for automatic gain or frequency control is applied through a smoothing resistor 11 to the grid of the first valve of a cathode coupled pair and the smoothing capacitor 6 is connected between this grid and the first anode or the junction of output resistors 8 and 9 or the output of a further amplifier 14 connected to the junction. If a control voltage of the opposite sign is required it may be derived from the anode of valve 2. Specifications 589,613, [Group XXXV], and 626,088 are referred to.
