Abstract

669,250. High-frequency transmission lines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 20, 1950 [July 29, 1949], No. 18151/50. Class 40 (viii). A dielectric seal in a hollow transmission line forms at least part of an enclosure within the line through which a lossy dielectric fluid is circulated. In the example shown the fluid is circulated between two connections 26 through an enclosure formed by two glass discs 24 and 25 and a groove 23 in a glass block sealed around the inner conductor 18 of a coaxial line. The seal may also be formed simply by the two dielectric discs extending between the inner and outer of the line. In a wave-guide the enclosure may be formed by two metal transverse partitions with vitreous windows. The purpose of the arrangement is to cool the seal and also absorb standing waves set up thereby.
