Abstract

668,852. Bushings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and HEMMINGS, F. W. March 31, 1950 [March 31, 1949], No. 8788/49. Class 36. A conductor 7 is carried through a hole in a metal wall 1 by being threaded through and hermetically sealed to a rigid tubular plug 5 which is inserted in a hole through a resilient bushing 3 secured in the hole in the wall 1, the internal diameter of the undistorted bushing being greater than the external diameter of the plug and the bush having a flange 4 abutting against one side of the wall 1. The hole in the wall is provided with an upstanding rim 2 and the bushing 3 which may be of rubber, synthetic rubber or silicone rubber is compressed and inserted therethrough so that flange 4 on the bushing abuts the wall 1. Plug 5 is then inserted in the bushing 3 so that flange 6 on the plug abuts the bushing. The conductor 7 is passed through the plug 5 and sealed thereto by solder 9 if the plug is of metal, or by synthetic resin if the plug is of insulating material. The surfaces of contact between the bushing, the plug and the wall may be fixed with adhesive.
