Abstract

956,963. Earthing parts of switches; twopart couplings. ASHLEY ACCESSORIES Ltd. July 14, 1960 [July 17, 1959], No. 24550/59. Headings H2B and H2E. The invention relates to earthing arrangements in electrical accessories in which a securing device holding two parts together form part of an earthing connection. In the single embodiment described the sockets, shutter mechanism &c. of a switched wall socket are housed in a moulded cover 10 (a small part of which is shown in Fig. 2) which is secured to its metal wall box (not shown) by a screw 14 which passes through the eye of an earthing strip 13 projecting through a slot in the side wall 10a of a hole in the cover. When the cover and box are tightened together the head of the screw clamps down on the eye of the earthing strip either directly, as shown, or through washers and completes the electrical connection between the wall box and an earth terminal in the cover. It is stated that when making the moulded cover the slot in the wall of the hole is obtained by arranging for the top and bottom faces of the moulding tool to be coincident except at this point so that a thin flash is formed which may be readily broken out.
