Abstract
668,762. Impedance networks. DU MONT LABORATORIES Inc., A. B. Jan. 4, 1950 [Jan. 15, 1949], No. 216/50. Class 40 (viii). [Also in Group XL (c)] A voltage gain control circuit comprises a number of resistances connected as a Wheatstone bridge, with the input applied to one diagonal, a potentiometer connected across the other diagonal and a reactance connected across one leg of the bridge. As shown, resistances R1, R2, R3, R4 are connected as a Wheatstone bridge in the cathode circuit of an amplifier valve 10. The input to the following valve 22 is taken from the moving contact of a potentiometer R5 connected across the diagonal of the bridge. A condenser 13 is connected across one leg of the bridge. The bridge is balanced for D.C. so that no objectionable disturbances arise from variations in the D.C. component fed to the following valve when the gain control is adjusted. The condenser 13 is chosen so that the junction of resistors R2, R3 and potentiometer R5 is earthed over the useful frequency band. The arrangement may be connected in the anode circuit of a valve.
