Abstract

678,615. Valve amplifying circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 9, 1950 [June 9, 1949], No. 15357/49. Addition to 657,026. Class 40 (vi). A wideband amplifier giving a flat response of the type described in the parent Specification comprises an impedance 7, 11 in the anode circuit of a valve 2, a connection being made from an ' intermediate point to the grid to provide negative feed-back while a further valve 1 supplies current variations to the intermediate point in proportion to the input signal. The time constants formed by the resistors 7, 11 and the stray capacities 12, 13 are such as to cause cut-off at high frequencies and are so proportioned as to give the amplifier a substantially flat frequency response. The current flowing through the common resistor 3 remains substantially constant due to opposite variations in the current through the valves 1, 2 but a decoupling capacitor 4 is provided to prevent degeneration at high frequencies. The high frequency response may be improved by employing an inductor 16 or a capacitor 17. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), signal variations from a cathode follower are applied to the remote end of resistor 7.
