667,782. Friction clutches. SCAIFE, A. A. May 25, 1950 [May 27, 1949], No. 14295/49. Class 80 (ii). Segmental shoes 4, radially guided on one shaft 14 by attached pistons 9, are moved outwards into frictional engagement with a surrounding drum 2 on the other shaft 1, by hydraulic pressure supplied through a central tube 15 to the hollow interior of the guide-pistons 9; and are retracted inwardly also. by hydraulic pressure supplied to the outer faces 9a of shoulders on the pistons through a shaft-channel 14' around the tube 15, passages 18, annular grooves 11 in piston-guiding liners 8 screwed in shaft-bores, and axial drillings 12 in the liners.
