Abstract
Monosulphonamides of resorcinol are obtained by treating ammonium, alkaline earth and alkali metal salts of resorcinol 4- or 5-sulphonic acid with benzene sulphonyl chloride to give the corresponding dibenzene-sulphonic ester, followed by halogenating with an agent such as phosphorus oxychloride to the corresponding sulphonyl halide and reacting this compound with an amine followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the benzene sulphonyl groups. Products specified include the resorcinol monosulphonamide derived from aniline, ammonia, morpholine, n-butylamine, and ethylene diamine, whose preparations are described; and sulphonamides in which one or both the Hs may be substituted by alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, polyhydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, and araliphatic radicals including alkoxy, alkyl and halogen substituents; and by aromatic and chlorinated, brominated and fluorinated, carboxylated, sulphonated, and amino-aromatic; heterocyclic, and alicyclic radicals.
