Abstract
Stilbene derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0624052/IV (b)/1> in which X is hydrogen or an alkyl or aromatic nucleus and Y is an alkyl or aromatic nucleus, are prepared by reacting 2 mols. of cyanuric chloride with, in any order, 1 mol. of 4,41-diaminostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid, 2 or more mols. of monoethanolamine and 2 mols. of a primary or secondary aliphatic amine or of a primary or secondary aromatic amine which may carry as nuclear substituents one or more alkyl radicals and/or one or more radicals from the group consisting of -OH, -OR (R is a hydrocarbon radical), -NH acyl, -SO3H, -SO2NH2 and halogen. The products are fluorescent in ultra-violet light and may be used for whitening textile materials. In example (1), the disodium salt of 4,41-bis-(2,4-bisethanolamino-1,3,5-triazyl-(6)) -diaminostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid is prepared by heating monoethanolamine with a suspension of the disodium salt of 4,41-bis-(2,4-dichloro-1,3,5-triazyl - (6)) - diaminostilbene - 2,21 - disulphonic acid (obtained from 4,41-diaminostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid and cyanuric chloride in the presence of aqueous caustic soda). Other examples describe the preparation of (2) and (5) the disodium salt of 4,41-bis-(2-anilino-4-ethanol-amino - 1,3,5 - triazyl - (6)) - diaminostilbene - 2,21-disulphonic acid; (3) the disodium salt of 4,41-bis - (2 - m - toluidino - 4 - ethanolamino - 1,3,5-triazyl - (6)) - diaminostilbene - 2,21 - disulphonic acid; and (4) the disodium salt of 4,41-bis-(2-p-acetylaminoanilino - 4 - ethanolamino - 1,3,5-triazyl - (6)) - diaminostilbene - 2,21 - disulphonic acid. Specification 623,849 is referred to.ALSO:Stilbene derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0624052/IV (c)/1> in which X is hydrogen or an alkyl or aromatic nucleus and Y is an alkyl or aromatic nucleus (see Group IV (b)), are fluorescent in ultra-violet light and may be used for whitening textiles.
