Abstract

The invention comprises salts of the compound <FORM:0986338/C2/1> with an alkylolamine of formula <FORM:0986338/C2/2> wherein R, R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 each stand for an alkylene radical (2-4 C), and n, n1 and n11 for 0 or an integer 1 to 6, or a mixture thereof. The alkylolamine, e.g. triethanolamine, tri-isopropanolamine and the 1 : 1 condensation products of triethanolamine and ethylene or propylene oxide, is added to a solution of the compound in water or a water/glycol mixture, for the preparation and the resulting solution may be used as a whitening agent without isolation of the compound.ALSO:Whitening agents for paper comprise alkylolamine salts of the compound <FORM:0986338/D1-D2/1> The alkylolamine used is of formula <FORM:0986338/D1-D2/2> wherein R, R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 each stand for an alkylene radical (2-4C), and n, n1 and n11 for O or an integer 1-6 a mixture thereof, e.g. triethanolamine, tri-isopropanolamine and the 1:1 condensation products of triethanolamine and ethylene or propylene oxide. The salts may be added in solution (e.g. 10:1) to bleached sulphite pulp followed by resin and alum, or with a 10:1 starch solution used to surface heat acid-sized paper.
