Abstract

667,587. Wind motors. HEPPELL, W. J. Jan. 6, 1950. No. 361/50. Class 110(iii). A wind motor comprises a vertical rotary power unit of the throughflow type and fixed wind - collecting shoots 13 which direct the wind tangentially to the rotor and preserve the general horizontal motion of the wind through both the rotor and the discharge to atmosphere The power unit comprises a shaft 12 driven by duplex blades 11 which are interconnected by spider bands and diaphragm plates. The wind supply is controlled by pivoted flaps 15 which are lifted by the wind against the retraction of springs or against gravity only on a curved or helical track. The flaps 15 may be operated by mechanical or electrical means actuated by a governor and may be manually closable. Specification 647,938 is referred to.
