667,381. Closures of rubber-lined containers; retractible spouts. GENERAL STAMPERS, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1950 [Feb. 21, 1949], No. 4635/49. Class 66 The opening 4 in the top of a metal drum 2 contains a resilient retractable spout 11 with a transverse diaphragm 17 which is removed or fractured before pouring and is closed by a plug 16 seating in the spout and in a bush 5 of rubber, synthetic rubber, or polyvinyl chloride &c. which it compresses to make a tight fit in the opening, the bush being held in place as by flanges 6, 7, the flange 6 being clamped between a cover plate 9 and a dished part 8 of the rim of the opening 4, and the lower flange 7 being secured to a rubber lining 3 if one is provided. The diaphragm 17 is domed so as to yield under pressure, e.g. due to a temperature rise so that the plug 16 is not forced out as by expansion of air trapped between it and the diaphragm.
