666,760. High - frequency attenuators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 14, 1949 [Dec. 24, 1948], No. 32111/49. Class 40 (viii). An attenuator for high-frequency systems comprises a wave-guide section 1 having a closed end through which is sealed an input coaxial line 4 having an input plate 2 connected to its internal conductor 3 and an output plate 6 is mounted on the inner 7 of an output line 8 secured in a sliding plug 9 which closes the open end of the wave-guide section. The perimeters of plates 2 and 6 extend close enough to the inner surface of the guide to capacitatively couple them thereto and reduce the distortion of the fields as energy is transferred. This reduces the distortion of the logarithmic characteristic the attenuator would possess in the absence of end effects.
