665,917. Cable grip. FREEMAN, J. E. Oct. 11, 1949. [Oct. 11, 1948] No. 26391/48. Class 78 (ii). A device for securing a cable comprises a casing 10 in which a wedge member 11 is slidably housed, the member and casing having correspondingly converging surfaces and the member being adapted to have the cable passed around it to be clamped between the said surfaces, means being also provided for retaining when required the wedge member in such a position in the casing whereby movement of the cable is unrestrained. Fig. 2. Rope 22 (which is secured to an aircraft) is passed around wedge 11 within casing 10, the wedge being held loose by passing a pin through holes 25 and 26 in casing and wedge respectively. The pin is removed and the spare end 24 of the rope is pulled to secure the wedge within the converging inside surfaces 18, 19 of the casing and thus to secure the rope thereto. The casing is anchored to the ground by means of rope 17, the rope 17 being passed around pulley 15 mounted in link 14, the said link being pivoted to lever 12 which is pivoted to the casing at 13 so that they form a toggle linkage. When the rope 22. has been fastened by the wedge, the lever 12 is pulled over to the left to further tighten the ropes and is held in position by pin 27 passing through hole 29 in the casing. Abutment 30 of the casing passes through the fork of lever 12 and is provided in case pins 13 break.
