Abstract
664,984. Percussive-tools. PEGSON, Ltd., WILSON, T. H., and RICHARDSON, R. H. March 17, 1950 [Aug. 26, 1949], No. 22220/49. Class 124 In a percussive-tool in which the blows of an operating member are transmitted to the bit by means of an anvil, the operating member carries a part movable with it and embracing the anvil so as to define an air compression chamber from which air is discharged to the bit during the blow-imparting movements of the operating member. As shown applied to an internal combustion tool with a free piston 2 and a pre-compression chamber 16, the reduced lower portion of a striker pin 3 on the piston carries a sleeve 26 which slidably embraces the anvil 5 to define an air compression chamber 38 from which air is directed to the bit 6 past a non-return valve 36 and through axial passages 35, 34 in the anvil and bit, respectively. Air passes into the chamber 38 through passages 28, 29 in the pin 3 and piston 2, respectively, the passage 29 carrying a non-return valve 32 which registers with the exhaust port 22 of the tool when the piston is at its upper dead centre. The anvil carries a packing ring 27.
