Abstract
707,255. Percussive tools. WARSOP POWER TOOLS, Ltd. Oct. 24, 1952 [Oct. 25, 1951], No. 25001/51. Class 124 A percussive tool with an internal combustion power unit comprising a single cylinder with a free cylinder head acting as a hammer piston and having a flange of larger diameter operating in an enlarged extension of the engine cylinder, is provided with non- return valves arranged in such a manner that air is admitted to the space above the ham. mer piston and air and exhaust gas are delivered to a space in the front end of the tool and then through a hollow steel. As shown, Fig. 2, during the upward stroke of the hammer piston 14, when exhaust gas is forced through a passage 26 into a space below the flange 14, air is driven out of the space above the flange by way of port 44, non-return valve 54, and pipe 50 to a space 52 from which it flows through a hollow steel 30. On the downward stroke, Fig. 3, exhaust gas is expelled from the lower space through port 46, valve 48, and pipe 50 and air is drawn into the upper space through port 44 and valve 42. The valves may be arranged in a chamber 56 attached to the side of the machine. This arrangement of valves is stated to give a steady stream of clearing gases through the steel.
