Abstract

1350646 Percussion tools G A BERGMAN 9 Nov 1971 [9 June 1971] 52024/71 Heading B4C A percussion tool, preferably a rock drill driven by internal combustion means, comprises engine and impact pistons 1, 2 having tapped impact transmitting gas 5 between them and a passage 12 delivering cushioning gas via a non-return valve 11 to a chamber 10 communicating via bores 14, 15 with a chamber 16 within the impact piston. A much larger volume of cushioning gas is thereby assured, part of which may pass via bores 19, 18 during the early part of the impact stroke, to the tool for chip removal &c. The invention is applicable to hammers, chisels &c. (not shown). The gas 5 could be supplied from a source other than combustion gases.
