663,299. Mechanical toys. PLAYGAMES, Ltd. March 15, 1950 [April 14, 1949], No. 10169/49. Class 132 (iii). A mechanical travelling toy simulates an animated figure and in a cat embodiment a spring motor 2 drives cranks 4, 4' (not shown) producing backwards and forwards motion of legs 7 by means of connecting rods. Forward rotation of each running wheel 8 is allowed by the engagement of boss portion 10 of the pawl 9 with the wheel periphery, thus rotating the pawl to hold tongue portion 12 clear of the wheel. On rearward movement of the leg, the pawl is rotated in the opposite direction so that the free end of the tongue 12 binds on the wheel to prevent its rearward rotation. The spring motor 2 also causes two shafts 20, 21 with attached rods 22, 23 and 24, 25 respectively to rotate intermittently. Jaw 29 and noise-emitting device 50 are actuated by rod 23, and rod 25 actuates a flexible tail. Specification 663,298 is referred to.
