[Class 132 (iii)] A toy device comprising a body mounted on wheels with a driving motor has a reaction member operated as to cause the body to roll over by engaging the surface on which the toy runs. A spring motor 22, Fig. 2, drives the rear wheels of a toy dog, the speed being limited by a weight 42 reciprocated at high speed by an eccentric 50 rotating in a slot in arm 44. A mutilated gear 52 intermittently rotates gear 56 to which is attached the reaction member in the form of a tail 18 curved towards the front and which causes the dog to roll over sideways and upright before running forward again, the body shape causing a slight change of direction. In a toy aeroplane, Fig. 9, which turns through a right angle each time it rolls over, the mutilated gear in this case being formed from a disc 160, Fig. 6, part 158 of the periphery of which is displaced sideways, so that both parts drive a long pinion 146 and the wheels 116 continuously, while the offset part 158 drives a short pinion 154 and the reaction member 130 intermittently. To facilitate the rolling, in a modified aeroplane, an arcuately bent piece of wire joins the wing tips and the reaction member is supported ordinarily above floor level by having the mutilated part of gear not cut to full root depth. A toy cat is made to roll first to the right and then to the left as follows. Ratchet 340, Fig. 15, rotates disc 326 by engagement with spring pressed pawl 342 so that crank pin 328 reciprocates connecting rod 330 to oscillate crown gear 334 which therefore turns reaction member 314 first in one direction then in the other. The ratchet mechanism allows the reaction member to fall gravitationally towards the end of its movement in a life-like manner.
