Abstract

662,156. Disc brakes. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. Feb. 4, 1949 [Sept. 11, 1948, No. 3175/49. Class 103 (i). A disc brake, particularly for aircraft, comprises a plate 8 fixed to a non-rotatable axle 1, and a plate 11 in axial alignment with, and axially movable in relation to the plate 8, both plates 8 and 11 being substantially oval in shape and provided with opposed pairs of friction pads 17 which are adapted to engage a disc 13, rotatable with the wheel hub 5, located between them. The brake is applied by axial movement of the plate 11 due to the force applied to the pull rods 21 resulting from a pull on the operating cable 31, which pivots the yoke member 24 about its bifurcated ends 26 to which are secured the rods 21 and which, as shown in Fig. 6, form fulcrums having a camming action on bearing plates 23 in the fixed brake plate 8.
