[Also in Group XXXIV] A live centre for a lathe has the centre spindle B mounted at its front and rear ends in roller-bearings D, F which turn in obliquelysplit rings G, H of conical shape, the rings being displaceable longitudinally in correspondinglytapered surfaces J, K formed in a non-rotatable body A to compensate for wear in the bearings. The rings are displaceable by a nut L and plug M which serve also to retain grease in the bearings. A thrust bearing P is provided between a flange on the spindle and a shoulder P<SP>1 </SP>on the body and can be lubricated by removing a screw Q.
