Abstract

1,030,087. Bearings. A.B. SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN. Dec. 2, 1964 [Dec. 13, 1963], No. 49076/64. Heading F2A. A plummer block comprises a resilient annular socket 3 having a peripheral groove 8 which receives a sheet-metal bracket 5 therein; and having a part-spherical inner surface 4 in which is mounted an outer race 2 of a ball or roller bearing 1. A part-spherical outer surface of the race 2 has a radius 9, Fig. 3 (not shown), whereas the part-spherical inner surface 4 of the socket 3 has a larger radius 10. The difference in radii 9, 10 causes deformation of the resilient socket 3; forces 11, 12 are created; and the bracket 5 is gripped by the walls of the groove 8. The socket 3 is split at 13, Fig. 4 (not shown), and diametricallyopposed recesses 14 are provided to facilitate the fitting of the socket into the bracket and the assembly of the bearing into the socket respectively. The groove 8 may be replaced by circumferentially-spaced grooves 15, Fig. 5 (not shown), which prevent rotary and axial movement of the socket 3. A removable portion 17 of the socket permits the introduction or removal of the bearing.
