661,458. Rotary drying apparatus. CIMENTS D'OBOURG SOC. ANON. Nov. 2, 1949 [April 23, 1949], No. 28042/49. Class 34(ii) Apparatus for drying materials in the form of lumps and comprising a rotary tube 3 along which the material advances while being exposed to a current of hot gases passing between chains suspended in the tube has some of the chains 9 nearer the entrance of the tube suspended by one end only and other chains 9<SP>1</SP> suspended by both ends. The material passes through a hopper 2 into the inclined tube 3 having rolling strips 7 resting on rollers 8 and rotated by a motor 4 through a pinion 5 and toothed ring 6, the points of suspension of the chain being distributed uniformly around the periphery of the tube. Dried material falls through slots 14 or perforations 13 while hard bodies such as stones continue their way to the end of the tube. The chains may be replaced by articulated elements or by cables carrying weights.
