Abstract

1366574 Electrostatic precipitators POLYSIUS AG 29 March 1972 [11 June 1971] 14659/72 Heading B2J The exhaust gases from a furnace 1, e.g. a rotary cement kiln, are cleaned in an electrostatic precipitator and are brought to a desired temperature, e.g. 400‹C to 420‹C, for this purpose by suitably controlling both the flow of the gases 11 from the furnace and the flow of raw material 8, e.g. ground cement, to the furnace through a pre-heater. As shown, the preheater has three stages 3, 4, 5, stages 3 and 4 being by-passed by a path 10 for the raw material 8 and by a path 16 for the gases 11. Thus part of the flow of raw material, and/or part of the flow of exhaust gases may be diverted from the preheater so that the gases have the required temperature when they reach the precipitator 6, this control being effected in dependence upon the degree of cleaning in the precipitator. Should the exhaust gases be used for grind-drying in a mill 7, the by-passes 10 and 16 are closed so that the gases are not overcooled.
