Particles of Fe-bearing material are first heated in a cyclone preheater by hot gases from a rotary kiln and then agglomerated in the kiln. As shown, the preheater includes two cyclones 4, 6 and the hot gases from the kiln pass through both kilns to a fan 8, Material from a hopper 9 falls through both cyclones and is fed into the kiln by a screw conveyer enclosed by a pipe 13.
