Abstract

1,257,815. Rotary driers. ATLAS A.S. 24 Dec., 1968 [27 Dec., 1967], No. 61336/68. Heading F4G. A rotary drum for drying material comprising pieces with different drying properties, in which drum the material is dried by a cocurrent stream of hot gas, comprises lifting scoop members 14, 15, 19 secured to the drum's interior surface, the members 19 in zones c-d, d-e and e-f being placed obliquely (e.g. helically) such that on rotation of the drum they cause backward movement of the material, and annular plate rings 20, 21, 22 at the entry end of zones c-d, d-e, e-f respectively to stop the backward movement of the material. The drum may comprise a rotary inner member comprising elongated cross-shaped elements 16 for breaking or interrupting the fall of the material dropped by the scoop members. Scoop members 14 may be helically arranged to cause forward movement of the material. The zones c-d, d-e, e-f can be of varying lengths. The scoop members 15 and 19 may have different profiles, e.g. as shown at 15a, 15b, 15c.
