Abstract

660,870. Electric discharge apparatus. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd., and BROOKER, M. W. May 24, 1949, No. 13849/49. Class 39 (i). A cap 4 having a central pin 5 is sealed into an aperture in a glass envelope 10, and an electrode 1 having a corresponding pin 2 is mounted in position by welding the pins end-to-end. Projection welding may be used, i.e. the ends of both pins are chisel-pointed, and the two sharp edges held at right angles for the welding operation, which is improved if carried out in a protective hydrogen-nitrogen atmosphere. Fig. 6 (not shown) illustrates the invention applied to the anode of a mercury vapour rectifier.
