Abstract

660,696. Raising liquids by vacuum. SCHRANZ, R. Jan. 12, 1950 [March 17, 1949]. No. 7305/49. Class 102 (ii). In a vacuum apparatus for raising liquids from a source to a container that is connected to pipe 15, a liquid trap is inserted between pipe 15 and the connection 13 to the source of vacuum to prevent liquid being drawn into connection 13 after the container has filled. The trap comprises a chamber 1 having a float 17 of balsa wood covered with a protective coating, guided on a spindle 18 and carrying a flexible valve disc 19 that co-operates with a seat 14 so that the valve is closed when the liquid in the chamber I reaches a predetermined level. The chamber 1 has an outlet 3 controlled by a flexible valve disc 4 that is loaded by a weight 9 and co-operates with a seat 5, so that it opens when a predetermined amount of liquid has collected in the chamber 1. The apparatus may be used for collecting liquids from parts of the human body.
