660,561. Airfield lighting fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., ADAMS, J. C., and BEGGS, S. S. Jan. 30,1948 [Feb. 5, 1947], No. 3434/47. Classes 75(ii) and 75 (iv) In a lighting fitting adapted to be placed on or in the ground as a contact or taxitrack light for an airfield, refractory means for forming a beam extends only partly around the electric lamp within the fitting and is rotatable around the lamp to effect adjustment of the direction of the beam. A refractory panel 22 consisting of a section of a sphero-drum concentrating lens with parallel vertical prisms, the angle of each prism being constant throughout the length of the prism, is rotatably mounted so as partly to surround an electric lamp 11 in a housing 1 bolted in a recess in the concrete taxi-track and covered by a domed prismatic glass 5; a mask 21 may surround the other part of the lamp. The foot 24 of the panel is made plain and is clamped between two annuluses 19, 23 secured by bolts 16 to a part spherical reflector 12 surrounding the lower part of the lamp 11 and provided with three springs 14 engaged in a groove 15 in the housing; the annulus 19 overlies a lip on the mask 21 and a lip on a hemi-spherical coloured glass cap 20. Two refracting panels independently rotatable or linked together may be fitted to provide two beams. Colour filters may be used and in order to offset the different transmitting powers of filters of different colour a filter of low power is used in conjunction with the refractory panel and a filter of high power without the refracting panel; alternate operation of the filters is effected by a shutter. The spatial form of the beam is that described by rotating a fixed angle about an axis through its vertix and at right angles to its bisector.
