Abstract

698,128. Lighting- fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BEGGS, S. S., and POWLEY, M. J. March 19, 1952 [March 20, 1951], No. 6666/51. Class 75(ii) A domed refractor 10 suitable for use in an obstruction warning light for aircraft and arranged to provide maximum light intensity at a small angle (say 10 degrees) to a transverse plane perpendicular to the refractor axis, has a smooth exterior surface, an annular lenticular portion 14 which surrounds a lamp 12 when mounted within the refractor, and at least one annular prismatic portion 15 towards the domed end 16 to refract light away from the refractor axis. As shown a plurality of prismatic elements 15 are provided, each having a frusto-conical surface 15a the apex of which coincides substantially with the focus of the lenticular part 14, the filament 13 of the lamp 12 being arranged to lie generally at or near this point.
