Abstract

660,229. Drying casks. BLAGDEN & CO., Ltd., V., and WALDE, R. S. March 24, 1950 [Feb. 9, 1949], No. 3584/49. Class 21 [Also in Groups XIII and XXX] Apparatus for drying drums, casks &c. has two conveyers 14, carrying the drums through a tunnel 29 and an endless belt 33 movable with each conveyer and having nozzles 34 upon it which can enter the bungholes of the drums, the belt engaging and closing the open side 31 of an air trunking 30 through which air is supplied to the nozzles by which it is delivered into the drums. The conveyers 14 travel on runways 13 and consist of hinged links 18 joined by crossbearers 21 having upper flanges supporting the drums and other cross-bearers having arms 24 to prevent rolling. Below the upper stretch of each conveyer is the air trunk 30 and the nozzles 34 attached thereto are welded to the conveyer cross-members 21 and by this means the belt is constrained to move with the conveyer. The air trunks 30 receive hot air through trunks 36 from a fan 37 and heater 39 and a return air manifold 41 has inlets 42 from the drying tunnel 29 controlled by dampers 43, this return manifold being led into inlet 40. A byepass flap valve 45 allows the proportion of fresh to recirculated air to be adjusted. The tunnel 29 may be lagged and provided with heating means.
