1,238,472. Drying apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK FRIEDRICH HAAS G.m.b.H. & CO. 1 Nov., 1968 [2 Nov., 1967], No. 51911/68. Heading F4G. A dryer for drying several parallel tows simultaneously comprises an upper and a lower row of open-ended rollers 15, 16 heated by passing a flow of heated air therethrough and over which the tows are looped, jets 20, 21 projecting between the rollers 15, 16 for directing heated air into the loops, heaters 26, 27, fans 22, 23 for passing heated air through the jets 20, 21 and rollers 15, 16 into the loops and channels 28 in the centre of the loops, which channels are open at the top, bottom and one end and which lead air from the loops, for recirculation. The dryer may comprise a section 2 having hot air jets 9, 10 and infrad-red heaters heated by hot flue gas from furnace 13 or by gas or electricity.
