Abstract

Endless - band conv e y e r s , materials carried on.-Relates to apparatus of the type in which the material passes repeatedly backwards and forwards from above to below in a drying-chamber, and consists in an arrangement by which heated gases, after use for heating inflowing air, are directed on to the material at certain places. Figs. 1 and 2 show longitudinal and transverse sections of the chamber, the central part of the former being taken on a plane in front of the side parts. Heated air admitted at 13 passes into the upper part of a chamber 11 and thence through pipes 9 to a chamber 12, from which it returns by pipes 10 to the lower part of the chamber 11 and is forced by a fan 15 into the vertical flue 16. The pipes 9, 10 heat the material by radiation, and also heat air entering by openings 8 and passing upwards as indicated by arrows. Perforated plates 4, 6 disposed above the heating-pipes direct the air and also serve to collect material falling from the conveyers. The hot gases may be admittÚd to any part of the drying-chamber by opening the flap valves 28, or to the chamber 2 in which the heating-pipes are placed, by opening the valve 27. A valve 30 is fitted to the flue 16 and is opened when the valves 27, 28 are closed and when starting the apparatus. Inspection openings 31 provided with doors are fitted at both ends of the chamber.
