480,678. Endless-belt conveyers. YOUNG, S. D., and HUNTER, YOUNG, & CO., Ltd. July 24, 1936, No. 20511. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] Apparatus for the heat treatment of material in strip or band form, for example, the drying or stoving of metal bands subjected to printing operations, comprises a chamber through which an endless conveyer band, adapted to carry the material detachably is caused to travel in a substantially helical path about the axes of shafts spaced apart, the shaft providing a space between them enveloped by the travelling conveyer and suitable as a chamber in which goods or materials otherwise than in strip or band form may be subjected to heat treatment. As shown, a chamber 2 is provided with shafts 7 ... 10 carrying pulleys over which an endless conveyer 15 passes in a helical path. The conveyer is driven from a source of power by means of a driving chain 16. Holes 32 are formed in the conveyer whereby the material to be dried or heated is detachably secured to the conveyer by pins or the like. Alternatively the material may be detachably secured by spring or cam-operated clips. The conveyer, outside of the chamber 2, passes round a guide pulley 25, a resilientlymounted pulley 27 and two fixed pulleys 28, 29. The chamber 2 may be heated by gas, electric or steam heating, or by hot gas introduced through flues 19, 20, and discharged through outlets 4, 5. The chamber may be divided into zones adapted to be at different temperatures. Means may be provided for recirculating heated air through the chamber. Rails 21, 22 form a track for a trolley adapted to contain plates or members for heat treatment.
