Abstract
658,314. Control of motors. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. March 25, 1949. No. 8209. Convention date, March 25, 1948. [Class 38(iii)] [Also in Group VIII] The speed of motors permitting rotation of warp beams by thread tension in a knitting machine is controlled by the tension in the threads varying an iron cored reactance in circuit with each motor. Increased tension) causes the movable arm. of the reactance 85 to move and trigger a gas filled tetrode 84 causing changes in phase relationship between grid and anode potential of rectifying valves 66, 67 supplying direct current to the motor 39. The motor 39 is normally driven at constant speed by applied voltages emanating from networks 74, 76, the latter being adjustable by a potentiometer 79 to adjust the normal running speed The changes described above cause additional increments of voltage to be applied to the motor to increase its speed. Excessive tension causes opening of a switch 142 whereby alternating current to the machine driving motor 17 is cut off. Excessive slackness causes opening of a switch 123, de-energizing of a relay 51, opening of switches 52, 53 and reduction of current and motor speed.
