Abstract

573,796. Controlling apparatus by light. BERRIDGE & CO., Ltd., I. L., and COLTON, L. H. Dec. 9, 1943, No. 20567. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Groups VIII and IX] A knitting, warping or beaming machine having a stop motion comprising thin disc-like members 4, each normally supported by a thread in such manner that in the event of failure of the thread a beam of light is prevented from acting upon a photo-electric cell, is provided with means for rendering inoperative the stop motion during those phases of the knitting or other cycle during which the yarn is normally slackened. The beam of light is projected through a cylinder 1 slotted to receive the members 4. In one form, a cam-operated stop 13 is provided to engage projecting portions 12 of the members 4 and hold them in raised position when the threads are normally slack. Alternatively, a brush or brushes mounted upon the cam or other shaft of the machine is arranged to engage a contact portion, for example, only when the threads are normally taut.
