Abstract
658,174. Fire-extinguishers. FOAMITE, Ltd. (American-La France-Foamite Corporation). Feb. 4, 1947, No. 3284. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 6, 1947.] [Class 47 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A construction of air foam nozzle comprises a hub 3 surrounded by a rim 4 supported on a spider 5 and a tube portion 2 of a diameter intermediate that of the rim and hub and held by screws 7 in a recess 6. Water enters through a hose connection 14 and passage 9, foam producing liquid enters through connection 11 and mixes with the water at 10 where the foam producing liquid enters by suction created by the flow of water. The mixture of foam producing liquid and water emerges from a nozzle 17 and impinges on the walls of the tube 2 creating a suction behind the jet into which region air is drawn from either side of the rim through the annular spaces 8 into the tube 2 behind the jet. Mixing with air takes place along the tube 2 which is provided with a baffle 18 and a reduced diameter portion at 21 to ensure a compact jet moving at uniform speed throughout its cross-section when it emerges at the end of the tube 20.
