656,924. Exhaust and like silencers. MAXIM SILENCER CO. Sept. 7, 1948, No. 23504. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 7(ii)] A silencer for sound waves transmitted by gaseous media has a gas passage which is inclined to the axis of a cylindrical casing 13 and has a pervious wall, the wall and the casing forming a resonating chamber, and the wall being formed of soundabsorbing material 31, such as copper or bronze wool, located between spaced shells 27, 28 held at their ends by spaced skew collars 22, 23 which permit removal of the wall endwise from the casing. The passage is bent where it passes through a hole in a partition 17 which, with further partitions 15, 16, sub-divides the resonating chamber. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the casing 13 and a similar casing are arranged before and after a casing containing perforated tube sections surrounded by copper wool, 'and a central part having holes connecting it with surrounding sound-absorbing chambers.
