Abstract

1335275 Exhaust silencers GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 19 April 1971 [27 Jan 1970] 20005/71 Heading FIB [Also in Division H1] A silencer for the exhaust gases of a gas blast circuit breaker comprises four concentric chambers 60, 62, 72, 77, the innermost chamber having an inlet 48 and a conical diffuser 50 facing the inlet and its wall 56 being perforated 58, the outermost chamber 77 being filled with compacted porous material and having outlets 82, 83 at opposite ends and the intermediate chambers 62, 70 having non-aligned perforated wall portions 65, 74 forcing the exhaust gas to flow in serpentine paths. The various walls are backed by sound absorbent material 90. The porous material 77 is copper wool. A barrier 84 deflects the gas from outlet 82 through 90 degrees; the wall 10 of the circuit breaker similarly deflects gas from outlet 83.
