Abstract

PURPOSE: To lessen the loss of pressure, reduce the fuel cost and obtain large silencing effect by combining mufflers in plural and making about half exhaust gas flow in the dual muffler wherein exhaust is performed in two systems.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust gas containing sound waves from an engine enters the main body 1 of the muffler through exhaust pipes P1 and P2. The main body 1 of the muffler is divided completely in two by a partition wall 5 and the pipe P1 is provided with a number of small holes 6 or apertures 7 communicated with a partitioned chamber A, while the pipe P2 is provided also with a number of small holes 6 communicated with a chamber B. Accordingly, about a half of the exhaust gas of the pipes P1 and P2 passes directly through the muffler, while the remaining half thereof enters the chamber A or the chamber B through the small holes 6 or the apertures and then is exhausted and silenced. By this constitution, the loss of pressure is lessened, the fuel cost is reduced and the silencing effect is excellent, and in addition, the device can be constituted in compact even with the dual-muffler system being adopted.
