[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A generator is controlled by an instrument comprising a shaft 2 acted on by a controlspring 3, by a wattmeter section 8, 8 fed from the output of the generator 9, and by a dynamometer section 10, 12 producing a torque proportional to the product of the exciting current from 13 and the output voltage of the generator, so that as instability is approached contacts 4, 5 are closed to initiate operation of controlling apparatus.
