Abstract
693,680. Automatic control systems for dynamo-electric machines. FORGES ET ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUE DE JEUMONT. March 31, 1952 [April 5, 1951], No. 8117/52. Class 38 (iv). In a control system for an asynchronous electrical machine, a reversible electric motor regulating the slip resistance is automatically controlled by a relay responsive to the power input to the machine when motoring and is automatically controlled by another relay responsive to the output of a tachometer generator during braking. In the Figure the stator of a wound-rotor asynchronous motor M is supplied during motoring from a three-phase source T through a reversing switch I and a switch G. A wattmeter associated with the motor input controls, through a two-way relay W the input to equipment A controlling a servomotor m adjusting cam-operated contacts c to vary in steps resistances R in the rotor circuit of the controlled motor. Rotor resistance is thus increased with increase of input power to reduce speed and increase motoring torque. Motoring in either direction is initiated by movement of a lever L in the appropriate direction to operate reversing switch I and energize the centre contact f2 of relay W. When braking, the stator is supplied from a D.C. source U through switch G. A tachometer generator D driven by the controlled motor then controls through a two-way relay E the input to equipment A so that servomotor m increases resistance R with increase of motor speed to control braking torque. Re-balancing of relay E upon a change in speed is effected by adjustment of resistances r by motor m simultaneously with resistances R. Braking is initiated by movement of a lever F to operate switch G, energize the centre contact a1 of relay E1 and set rheostats rl, r2, controlling the D.C. excitation of the controlled motor and the excitation of the tachometer generator in opposite senses, so that braking torque is dependent on the setting of lever F.
