448,339. Automatic control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and FOX, K. M., 15, Southfield Road, Rugby. Dec. 5, 1934, No. 34960. [Class 38 (iv)] Speed.-In a control system, for a number of electric motors 2 driving machines or machine sections 1 which require to be maintained in a predetermined adjustable relationship with each other, comprising a separate synchronizing device 7 driven by each motor and operating to control the power input thereof according as the said device is delivering or receiving power, reversible pilot motors 28 are controlled by the synchronizing devices to alter the positions of the brushes on the driving motors 2 which are of the variable speed arc commutator type. A directional power relay 23 may be connected in the supply circuit to the synchronous machine constituting the synchronizing device 7 to operate contacts controlling the pilot motor, or the synchronous machine may have a movable external member spring-biassed to a central position and adapted to operate similar contacts. Specifications 158,468 and 186,470, [both in Class 38 (iii)], are referred to. Speed may be adjusted by a hand wheel 17 operating upon the brushes of a commutator motor 16 driving an alternator 15 maintained at constant frequency by a speed regulator 22.
