Abstract

656,591. Drying webs &c. GEFELDT, R. W. Nov. 29, 1948, No. 30916. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect.- 91 of the Acts, July 7, 1949.] [Class 34(i)] A web 13 of steel wool impregnated with soap solution is dried by causing an electric current to flow through part of the web. The web 13 on leaving the impregnating tank 12 runs between a pair of squeeze rollers 3 and thence into a drying chamber 20 where it passes between or over rollers 4, 5 6, 7 two pairs 4, 7 of which are of electrically conducting material and are connected to a source of electrical energy so that current flows through the part of the web extending between said rollers 4, 7 to heat the web and thus dry it at a temperature of 130‹ to 170‹C, the temperature being controlled by regulating the current potential. A suction fan 23 mounted on top of the 'chamber 20 draws air or other drying gas through the chamber.
